Seasons of Life

2 min read

It has been a minute since I posted to my blog. This past year it has seemed my husband and I have gone through many seasons in our life. Shortly after my last post in 2025, we found out that his mother was in the hospital out in California. We flew out immediately and the diagnosis was not good. It seemed she had pancreatic cancer that had metastasized. The decision was made that my husband would stay there and care for her at home. During our time apart he took care of his mother. I watched his health deteriorate. While he was caring for his mother he fell and tore his rotator cuff. He lost weight. For me we had one of the worst accumulations of snow we had in years, The first day I was shoveling snow about every hour for the first day as my Boston Terrier needed a place to go outside. The temperatures were so cold. I continued to pastor my church while my heart wanted to be in California with my husband and mother-in-law. In April of 2026 she passed away. My sister and I drove across country with my dog to be with my husband and help to sort through things in the house. paperwork, etc. When I saw my husband he looked like he had aged 10 years and had lost so much weight. We found out a few days later that he was losing blood and was critical. It was an ulcer and he had to stay in the hospital for a few days. We finally got things finalized the cars loaded up and started the drive home. Let me tell you driving through the mountains with sleet and snow is not for the faint of heart.

Ultimately we made it home. Praise the Lord, The last few months have been spent trying to get my husband healthy again. We got the surgery scheduled for his torn rotator cuff and three days before his scheduled surgery he fell and broke two ribs on the same side of his shoulder that was to have been fixed. In June my son was admitted for a possible heart attack but it was ok, Just meds that needed to be adjusted from his previous major heart attack the year before, We have finally reached the point where my husband's shoulder surgery is now scheduled for October 28th!

The Seasons of Life! It has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs and yet we are still praising God for all of His blessings, We mourn the death of his mother and praise the Lord because we know that she is in heaven and out of pain and discomfort,

What will the future hold? Only God knows and we trust in Him!

I will begin again to promote my Christian Women's Speaking "Walking Through the Fire With Jesus: Refined, Renewed, and Restored" and giving God all the glory!

Many blessings to you all and thank you for your patience and understanding!

In Christ's love,

Gwen

Seems like this time in our lives we all are walking through fire! Whether it be a smoldering or a roaring flame-makes me concentrate on my need for comfort from the Lord. He promises he will never leave me and I must not leave him to concentrate on the flame. That fire grows dim in the light of his mercy and grace!

We felt that Gwen really connected with our audience and her stories were memorable. We were all encouraged by the way she incorporated scripture as she spoke about how God satisfied her soul during a really dark time in life. She is a beautiful Pastor and witness for Jesus!

Becky,

Gwen spoke at my mother's church's Mother and Daughter Banquet today. I was fortunate enough to be a guest and to hear her for the first time. Her message was beautiful, relevant and most importantly a blessing. Although scripture was the foundation of her message, sharing her personal experiences made it more relatable. God is good.
